Geared Up: US Open 2012 Outfit Edition

The US Open's been going as expected with the top seeds still rallying for first place. When I watched a couple days ago, an outfit caught my eye. I noticed the dress before the player. It turned out to be Ana Ivanovic in a catchy yellow-green Adidas dress.

I've preferred Adidas over Nike the past couple years and this dress explains why. They always go for new graphics and designs on their dresses, so nothing looks boring. It really pops at the blue Flushing Meadow courts and brings an almost optimistic feel to her. It's colorful pattern is young and fun, and I'm pretty sure the back is asymmetrical like her Wimbledon dress. I'm certain this will be a seller when it starts hitting the shelves. 9.5/10

On the other hand, here's a less flashy, but equally pretty and practical dress. This one is worn by Serena Williams.

In the past, she's worn some dresses that weren't so flattering on her body, but I think this is one of my favorite ones on her. It's dark colors are slimming on almost anyone and the flash of color in the middle brings an interesting element to the piece. I'm getting the sense that the color combo for Nike this year is dark gray and neon yellow; I really like it. The cut looks elegant too. 8.5/10

Geared Up: US Open 2012 Outfit Edition

It's the first day at the the 2012 US Open. That means we'll be seeing the newest and trendiest gear donned by the best of the best players. I'll try to show you my favorite outfits of the tournament throughout the week, starting with the two fashionistas of tennis, the first being (obviously) Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova in her day and night dresses

I feel like I've seen these two dresses on her before, so it's not really a shock that she looks good in them. Nike's been pretty humdrum about their last few designs; maybe because they've all worked and been good sellers, but I feel sooner, rather than later, the buyers will want something different. That change will start with Sharapova since her line of gear is the best selling line Nike has. Besides the déja vu factor, I still like the dress on her. The night dress is a little fancier with the V-neck, and the day dress is lighter and more fun. I give it 8.5/10.

Next up is the fashion icon on the men's side *drumroll please*
Roger Federer!
Federer's day and night outfits

I'm not being biased here, but again, Federer's outfits look very classy and elegant here. I'm sure Nike is aware that Federer loves his outfits simple, and they have succeed in keeping it that way. The detailing on the collar and sleeves make it practical, yet fashionable. His day outfit is a little unusual for him because it's a t-shirt instead of a polo. His outfits salute the fact that this is the American Open with their red, white and blue. I'm sure a lot of guys will start wearing this outfit as soon as it goes on the shelves. Ignoring that fact that he's my favorite player (sort of), his gear gets a 9/10 in my book.
